EDS

Symptom complaints and impact on functioning in youth with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

This study investigates the symptoms and impact of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) in pediatric patients. Thirty-four young people with hEDS were surveyed about their experiences, highlighting pain, fatigue, and the social limitations of keeping up with peers as major challenges. The study found that an increased number of somatic symptoms was the strongest predictor of functional disability and psychological issues like anxiety and depression. These findings suggest that effective management of physical symptoms could improve both physical and psychological outcomes in youths with hEDS.
