Supraventricular Tachycardia and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome Overlap: A Retrospective Study.

This study examines the overlap between postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) by investigating 64 patients diagnosed with both conditions. The research, conducted from 2013 to 2019, identifies how SVT can often be present in POTS patients but may go undiagnosed without thorough monitoring. Common types of SVT in these patients included atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia and atrial flutter. The study highlights the importance of considering SVT in the differential diagnosis of POTS and shows significant symptom improvement, especially in palpitations and lightheadedness, following SVT ablation. Despite the symptom relief, orthostatic tachycardia persisted in some patients, emphasizing the complexity of managing POTS co-occurring with SVT. The findings advocate for enhanced diagnostic vigilance and possibly incorporating long-term rhythm monitoring to better identify and treat SVT in POTS patients.
