SNEAK PEEK - COVID-19 And Dysautonomia: What Is Known And What Is Not
In this sneak peek of a speaker series, Dr. Blitshteyn discusses the relationship between COVID-19 and dysautonomia, focusing on how symptoms similar to dysautonomia are frequently observed in COVID-19 patients. The presentation highlights that dysautonomia, noted in the early literature, particularly affects hospitalized and ICU patients, potentially due to central origin related to brainstem dysregulation. Furthermore, there are case reports of patients developing autonomic disorders like POTS following COVID-19 infection. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines "long COVID" symptoms, including these autonomic disorders, as persisting for more than 30 days, affecting 10-30% of adults and 9-14% of pediatric patients post-COVID infection.
