Prof Satish Raj - Medication in PoTS

In this masterclass led by Prof. Satish Raj, various treatment strategies for POTS are discussed, highlighting both pharmacological and nonpharmacological approaches. Nonpharmacological methods, such as exercise and dietary modifications, are emphasized, with detailed guidance on how exercise should be structured for maximum benefit—a regular, primarily aerobic routine with adjustments based on individual ability. He addresses the importance of increasing blood volume via salt and water intake and outlines pharmacological options like beta blockers, Midodrine, Fludrocortisone, with reservations about continuous use of IV saline due to risks associated with central line use. Prof. Raj stresses an individualized treatment approach, acknowledging POTS as a syndrome with varying symptoms among patients, and encourages behavioral therapies to help patients cope with the chronic nature of their condition.
