PoTS and Children Webinar
This PoTS UK webinar, led by Dr. Jeffrey Boris, a pediatric cardiologist and autonomics specialist, covers the various aspects of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) in children. Dr. Boris explains that PoTS is characterized by autonomic dysfunction, leading to symptoms like dizziness, tachycardia, fatigue, and brain fog, often triggering after infections or in conjunction with comorbidities such as joint hypermobility or MCAS. The webinar emphasizes the importance of symptom management and exercise, highlighting the combination of non-pharmacological approaches (hydration, salt intake) and medications (beta-blockers, ivabradine) for treatment. Dr. Boris also discusses the necessity of individualized treatment plans, the challenges of diagnosing PoTS, its potential autoimmune links, and recent research findings. The session includes a discussion on the variation in symptoms and treatment efficacy, as well as addressing audience questions about associated conditions and symptoms, medication use, and challenges in accessing care. The goal is to manage symptoms and enable daily functioning, with a view towards better understanding and treatment in the future.
