Patient-Centered Paradigm for Managing Autonomic Long COVID Symptoms During Sports and Exercise.
This report describes a novel, patient-centered approach to managing dysautonomia symptoms experienced by a healthcare worker following COVID-19 infection. The patient developed symptoms consistent with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), including exertional tachycardia and post-exertional fatigue. Traditional tests were inconclusive, and both standard pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments were not well-tolerated by the patient. A tailored treatment regimen incorporating "basal-dose" ivabradine and a "sliding scale" for low-dose metoprolol based on exertional needs was developed. This approach effectively managed the patient’s symptoms, allowing her to resume work and recreational activities.
