Pain Symptomatology and Management in Pediatric Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: A Review.
This review article examines pain symptomatology and management in pediatric patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a group of connective tissue disorders characterized by joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility, and tissue fragility. While pain is not included in the major diagnostic criteria for EDS, it is a common symptom that significantly affects the quality of life in children. The review discusses the nature and intensity of pain experienced by these patients, including common pain sites such as musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal areas. It also evaluates various forms of pain management practices, including pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions like physical therapy and psychological support, while emphasizing the need for further research in pediatric pain management. The impact of pain on quality of life is also considered, and the authors highlight the current gaps in literature and propose areas for future research.
