Impact of COVID-19 infection on baseline autonomic symptoms in patients with preexisting postural tachycardia syndrome and orthostatic intolerance: A retrospective study.
This retrospective study examines the impact of COVID-19 on patients with pre-existing Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). It revealed that most patients experienced a worsening of their baseline autonomic symptoms during the acute phase of COVID-19 and this persisted for several months post-infection. The study involved 41 patients, with 92.7% reporting exacerbated symptoms such as orthostatic dizziness, palpitation, fatigue, and syncope that required escalated therapy. A significant 68% experienced symptom worsening lasting 1-6 months after recovery, and 73.2% needed additional pharmacological treatments to manage their symptoms effectively.
