High prevalence of eosinophilic esophagitis in patients with inherited connective tissue disorders.

This study highlights a significant association between eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and inherited connective tissue disorders (CTDs), indicating a notably higher prevalence of EoE among these patients compared to the general population. EoE is identified as a chronic inflammatory condition involving immune reactions to various foods and is linked with atopy and esophageal remodeling. The research involved assessing the prevalence of EoE in patients with CTDs and examining esophageal mRNA transcript profiles, identifying unique gene expression patterns, including the COL8A2 gene, in these patients. The findings suggest the need to consider EoE-CTD as a distinct subgroup, which may have implications for diagnosis and management strategies.
