Health-related quality of life and suicide risk in postural tachycardia syndrome.
This study evaluates the impact of POTS on patients' quality of life, focusing on physical health, mental well-being, and suicide risk. Utilizing online surveys, the study compares 624 POTS patients with 139 controls, showing a significant decline in quality of life for those with POTS. Patients report more days of poor physical health, pain, activity limitations, poor sleep, and low energy, alongside diminished feelings of control over their lives. These factors contribute to a markedly increased risk of suicide among POTS patients, with nearly half of the sample group at high risk. The study highlights an urgent need for targeted interventions addressing these quality of life issues and understanding the underlying mechanisms contributing to the increased suicide risk in POTS patients.
