Health-related quality of life and health literacy in patients with systemic mastocytosis and mast cell activation syndrome.

This study examines health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and health literacy in patients with systemic mastocytosis (SM) and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). Using validated questionnaires, the research highlights that patients with MCAS and SM have significantly lower HRQOL compared to healthy controls, with MCAS patients experiencing notably lower scores in role function and fatigue. The level of information patients have about their condition significantly affects their quality of life. The study suggests that improving patient information could enhance HRQOL, underlining the need for better knowledge and communication regarding these conditions.
