Factors Associated With Use of Nonoral Nutrition and Hydration Support in Adult Patients With Postural Tachycardia Syndrome.

This study investigates the use of nonoral nutrition and hydration support (NONHS) in adult patients with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) who experience severe gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. The research, based on patient records at Mayo Clinic Arizona, highlights that a small group of POTS patients required NONHS, including intravenous fluids, enteral nutrition, and parenteral nutrition, due to severe symptoms like nausea and abdominal pain. These patients showed higher healthcare utilization and more severe GI and autonomic symptoms compared to those not requiring NONHS. The findings suggest that management of such cases is complex, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach, and point out the need for further studies to develop optimal management strategies.
