Exercise and POTS
This resource discusses exercise as a controversial yet frequently recommended treatment for patients with POTS. Dr. Satish Raj, a POTS specialist, suggests exercises that can potentially alleviate symptoms without worsening them. Specifically, exercises should be done sitting or lying down, such as using a rowing machine, recumbent bike, or swimming, emphasizing low resistance and gradual increases in duration. Patients are advised to aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise four days a week though progress may take 4-6 weeks. Individual capabilities vary widely, so it’s crucial to tailor exercise routines to personal tolerance levels and consult a physician, particularly if the patient is on medication like beta blockers that can affect how the body reacts to exercise. The advice given is not a cure but aims to manage symptoms effectively.
