Elevated total serum IgM predicts the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies in dysautonomia patients.

This study investigates the link between elevated total serum IgM levels and the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in patients with dysautonomia. Analyzing 45 patients with cardiac autonomic dysfunction, the researchers found that elevated IgM is significantly associated with aPL positivity, particularly in female patients. These findings are crucial as the presence of aPL increases the risk for thrombotic events and pregnancy complications. The study suggests the usefulness of total serum IgM as a cost-effective test for identifying at-risk dysautonomia patients. Notably, many patients showed symptomatic improvement with antithrombotic and immune modulatory therapies, highlighting the potential benefits of early detection and treatment.
