Dr. Steve Smith’s research update on treating pelvic venous disorders (and how it helps POTS and related syndromes)

Dr. Steve Smith discusses his research indicating that treatable pelvic venous disorders may significantly overlap with and impact POTS and other syndromes like fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, migraines, and IBS. Through stenting or embolization of dysfunctional pelvic veins, many symptoms across these conditions show improvement at 3, 6, and 12 months, according to studies spanning five different centers. Smith proposes that pelvic venous congestion may lead to a heightened sympathetic state, potentially exacerbating a range of symptoms associated with POTS and hypermobility syndromes. He calls for more awareness and research into pelvic vein dysfunction as a potential underlying mechanism or contributing factor to these complex syndromes.
