Dr Chopra discusses Pain Management Part 2

In this detailed presentation, Dr. Pradeep Chopra discussed various aspects of pain management specifically for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) patients, focusing on neuropathic pain and joint issues, particularly in the feet and knees. He outlined nonpharmacological treatments like barefoot walking to improve proprioception, and pharmacological options such as low-dose naltrexone and alpha-lipoic acid which may assist in pain management. Dr. Chopra emphasized the importance of prevention and strengthening muscles around joints to manage EDS-related pain. He also addressed diagnosing and managing complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and highlighted considerations for using a variety of medications, such as anti-depressants and gabapentin, while underscoring the need to avoid long-term use of opioids due to potential sensitization to pain. Dr. Chopra advocated for patient education and service animals as supportive measures for enhancing quality of life in EDS patients.
