Adrenal gland response to adrenocorticotropic hormone is intact in patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

This study investigates whether adrenal dysfunction contributes to symptoms in patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) by assessing their adrenal response to adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). Despite some POTS patients having low plasma volumes, low aldosterone, and unusual aldosterone-renin profiles, the study finds that both aldosterone and cortisol respond normally to ACTH. Accordingly, the adrenal glands of POTS patients function similarly to those without POTS when stimulated by ACTH, indicating an intact hormonal response that suggests the adrenal cortex function is not impaired in POTS.
